Understanding the Traditional Package for Domestic Workers

The 'Traditional Package' offered by approved agencies involves hiring domestic workers under the sponsoring family with a live-in contract, usually renewable every two years. During the initial six-month probation period, the employer can replace the worker or claim recruitment costs based on specific conditions, including contract termination without a legitimate reason, leaving without justification, medical unfitness, or inability to fulfill assigned tasks.

Worker Responsibilities

Domestic workers are obliged to perform assigned duties as per the employment contract, respecting cultural norms, adhering to employer instructions (unless violating the contract, law, or morals), maintaining workplace privacy, and using employer-owned items with permission.

Following the probation period, if the worker terminates the contract without justification or leaves without acceptable reasons, a portion of the recruitment costs can be recovered based on the remaining months of the two-year contract.

Agency Guarantees

Under this package, the worker is registered under the employer's file and resides with them for two years. The recruitment agency provides a guarantee during this period, ...enabling the employer to replace the worker or recover recruitment costs for specific cases during the first six months. These include contract termination without cause, leaving the job without valid reason, unsuitability for the role, or inability to perform agreed-upon tasks.

Recruitment agencies are mandated by law to treat domestic workers humanely, respecting their rights and cultural sensitivities. The direct contract is not covered by the assurance stipulated in the domestic workers' Law and accordingly, the employer has no right to rely on any previous subsequent agreement of contract or ask the domestic worker any assurance under this contract.
